Coast to Coast Adventure

Day 1:    SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA  Arrival at Juan Santamaria International Airport.  Representative will meet and greet you upon arrival and will transfer to Real Intercontinental Hotel.  Check in for overnight stay.

Day 2:    SAN JOSE - TORTUGUERO NATIONAL PARK  Check out and early departure from your hotel on a ground transfer looking for the dock (Caño Blanco area, approximately 3-hour drive) to start your journey to Tortuguero National Park.  Breakfast will take place at a local restaurant en route.  A two-hour boat ride will take you through natural and man-made canals sheltered by the rainforest's thick vegetation.  From your boat, you will be able to admire the unique flora and fauna of this area.  Check-in and overnight at Turtle Beach Lodge in the afternoon.  You will have the opportunity to explore the tiny Caribbean village of Tortuguero.

Day 3:    TORTUGUERO AREA  At 5 AM you will take a trip to explore the smaller canals and get closer to nature.  From July through September you can take the optional turtle-watching tour during the evening to admire one of the most impressive miracles of life when the massive sea turtles arrive en masse to lay their eggs on the beach.  Overnight at Turtle Beach Lodge.

Day 4:    TORTUGUERO-ARENAL VOLCANO  After breakfast you will be transferred by boat back to the dock (in Caño Blanco area) in order to take ground transportation (mini-bus).  After lunch at a Selva Tropical restaurant along the way, you will be transferred to the Arenál Volcano area.  Check-in and overnight at Magic Mountain Hotel.

Day 5:    ARENAL VOLCANO AREA    Morning at leisure.  You will get a combination tour  which includes Arenál Hanging Bridges where you get the chance to enjoy the lush vegetation and see a lot of wildlife such as sloths, monkeys, birds.  After a 2-hour hike, we will continue to La Fortuna Waterfall.  There you can take a refreshing swim and enjoy the flora and fauna at the same time.  When you are ready, we will take you to a typical restaurant in La Fortuna for a "typical" lunch (casado).  After lunch, you will be ready for the net activity -- the Arenál volcano hiking tour.  In this trip, you will take a short hike through the secondary rain forest where your tour guide will explain to you about the flora and fauna and show animals such as monkeys, birds, reptiles and more.  After this short hike, you will get to the view point to try and see the lava flow.  You will be here about one hour, and then we will take you to the majestic Tabacón Resort.  There you will soak in the natural hot spring and relax for the full-day trip.  The you will enjoy a delicious dinner after which you will be ready to return to Magic Mountain Hotel.

Day 6:   ARENAL VOLCANO - MONTEVERDE   Check out and transfer (mini-van to boat to mini-van) to Monteverde area.  It's the fastest way from Arenál to Monteverde but in an original way.  Taking only 3 hours including lake crossing instead of six hours on the road around the lake.  We will leave from La Fortuna at 8:30 AM in a comfortable van with enough space to take your luggage with you at all times.  Check-in and overnight in Fonda Vela Hotel.

Day 7:    MONTEVERDE AREA   Day starts at 8 AM.  You will be picked up by Selvatura Park and taken to the Canopy Tour and Suspension Bridges.  It takes about 5 hours for the whole journey.  Overnight at Fonda Vela Hotel.

Day 8:    Free day.  You can rest, or you can go by yourself to Monteverde Cloud Forest.  The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve covers an area of 26,000 acres (10,522 hectares) and is home to more than 2,000 species of plants and trees, 100 species of mammals, over 400 species of birds, and roughly 1,200 species of amphibians and reptiles.  When exploring the forest, you will come across a variety of birds and animals including bellbirds and quetzals.

Day 9:    Continue on to one of the extensions available for a few days at the beach hotel of your selection such as:  Ocotal, Tamarindo, Samara, Montezuma, or Manuel Antonio.  You can visit any of these places after Monteverde.
